For vehicles fitted with a suspension consisting of two axles or more, the use of one or several self-steering axles is the most usual solution to prevent tyre scraping when manoeuvring or turning while guaranteeing the stability and safety of the whole vehicle.
With the aim of simplifying use of its products, Colaert Essieux has developed a new range of self-steering and controlled-steering axles, Dual Mode.
The Dual Mode system is compact and functional due to the development of new technical features. Dual Mode axles are fitted with a central hydraulic cylinder built into the centre link.

Conventional self-steering axles are fitted with two single- or double-acting, realignment and locking cylinders. They are also fitted with one or two shock-absorbers.

Dual mode self-steering axles are fitted with a central hydraulic realignment and locking cylinder. They are also fitted with two very compact shock-absorbers, directly installed on the cylinder support.

The “autodirecteur” manual self-steering axle is fitted with four locking cylinders controlled by the user. This axle can be fitted with a self-steering system in forward and reverse.

“Autodirecteur” automatic self-steering axle
The “autodirecteur” automatic self-steering axle is fitted with two electronically-controlled locking and realignment cylinders. A sensor on the fixed axle detects the direction of the trailer and allows the system to automatically lock one of the two cylinders to ensure the smooth operation of the axle.
